One Month Later

Not much has happened the first 5 weeks of having braces.

I have noticed that my teeth have shifted a little bit (will post pictures soon). My teeth did hurt the first few weeks too. Not excruciating pain, more like the feeling when you have meat stuck in your teeth, or like your teeth are itchy from eating something furry, or when you hear somebody scratch their nails on a blackboard.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with the Oral Hygienist. I think I will be in trouble. You could say I have "cheated" a little bit. "No popcorn", the lady told me. And I replied, "But what am I suppose to munch on when I go to the movies?". I have had some popcorn. But haven't been to the movies. It's just so tasty. Maybe I will just omit this fun fact tomorrow.

And everybody knows that Easter has just passed us by. All those yummy chocolate eggs and bunnies are very hard to resist. And Red Tulip, how could I not eat some?

What else is there? Oh, I had an ice cream today. A McFlurry with Oreos. Yummo. We were out celebrating because our land settled today. Yes, we are proud owners of DIRT! Very expensive dirt. You would think it had specks of gold scattered throughout it. Or we have a diamond buried in there somewhere. Anyway, back to the point:

I had ice cream. And maybe this is a good thing because this is what alerted me to a possible problem. Well, I'm pretty sure it's a problem, a serious one. As you may know, I broke my teeth when I was young... twice. As a result, one of my front teeth were killed. Meanwhile, I have had this sensitive tooth for as long as I can remember. One of my canines on the same side as my dead tooth. It always played up when I had something cold touch it. When I went to my dentist prior to getting braces, he said that it's a bit of a worry that it hurts way up where the root is. He said that it may be in the process of dying. I asked, "Is it infected?", he said "No, no sign of infection. The trauma to your tooth may cause it to die". So I said ok, I would speak to my Endodontist when I see him in April (next week). Fast forward to now, when I was eating the forbidden ice cream, I noticed that my tooth no longer reacts to the cold. I thought it was getting better, maybe my tooth moved into a new position that wasn't "pressing" on the nerve anymore. Until I got home and put a block of ice onto my tooth... for 3 minutes. Nothing. No feeling whatsoever.

So, I have come to the conclusion that my teeth woes will probably never end. I'll probably have to have another expensive root canal, and another crown when the braces come off... and when I do the rough calculations in my head, I feel like just ripping all my teeth out and start a new fashion trend - toothless is hip and cool! Yeah, right.

Anyway, I don't think I can hide the fact that I had ice cream today. I need to inform the lovely lady of my new problem so I can speak to my Orthodontist.

I do remember signing a consent form that stated that nerve damage to teeth is possible during orthodontic work. I guess I'm one of the (un)lucky few.
